Rescue-Mate – Dynamic situation creation and support for rescue forces in complex crisis scenarios (2023-2027)

The Rescue-Mate research project is looking at the challenge of situation mapping and optimizing information flows in the safety scenario of a storm surge in Hamburg, Germany. Against the backdrop of rising sea levels, more frequent extreme weather events, and an increasing number of residents who need to be evacuated and cared for in the event of a disaster, the project contributes to resilience of urban areas. To further foster inclusive AI research, Prof. Chris Biemann, from the House of Computing and Data Science (HCDS), Universität Hamburg, Germany, in collaboration with Prof. Adem Chanie Ali from the Department of Journalism and Communications at Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia, has been awarded a $60k grant from the Google Award for Inclusion Research Program for a project titled "AI-driven Monitoring of Attitude Polarization in Conflict-Affected Countries for Inclusive Peace Process and Women's Empowerment."
