Representatives from nine institutions of the DaDiS community met for a two-day workshop in Bielefeld to exchange ideas and define new implementation goals for 2026.
The key topics initiated at the previous workshop in Bochum (March 2025)—the publication of a position paper and the development of a process for founding an association—were successfully completed. Building on this, the Bielefeld workshop focused on data literacy in teaching and research.
A major highlight was the presentation of the “Data and AI Literacy Standard (DAILi Standard)” by Christian Bockermann (AKIS), Katharina Weiß (BiCDaS), and Henrike Weinert (DoDaS). The initiative analyzes more than 20 existing frameworks and consolidates them into a unified standard (IEEE publication forthcoming). The goal is to integrate these results with training and educational offerings from the DaDiS community on a shared platform.
Another key session addressed the digital transformation of research. Led by Canan Hastik (SODa), Lena Steinmann (DSC Bremen), and Martin Semmann (HCDS), the session linked to the upcoming informatics workshop (Call for Participation on September 22, 2026, in Dresden) and explored strategies for further developing the community, particularly through joint funding applications.
Interactive group work focused on collecting and discussing user cases from participating institutions. This sparked a broader discussion about disciplinary cultures and their role in shaping the future of teaching and research. A key takeaway: closer collaboration across disciplines is essential to fully unlock scientific potential.
The workshop concluded with discussions on supporting ongoing funding proposals for data competence centers. Participants strongly welcomed the possibility of continued funding and proposed a joint letter of support from the community.
Two key work packages were defined for 2026:
- Implementation of the DAILi Standard on the DaDiS website
- Development of joint funding proposals
The organizers invite further community members to get involved.
Special thanks go to Bielefeld University, especially Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ulrich Rückert and Katharina Weiß (BiCDaS), for hosting the workshop. The next meeting will take place in Kiel in 2027.
