On 25 June 2026, the Hub of Computing & Data Science (HCDS) at the University of Hamburg will host RSE Day 2026 at the AER Atrium in Science City Bahrenfeld.
The one-day event is aimed at researchers, Research Software Engineers, developers, and everyone interested in research software, scientific computing, and data-driven methods. The goal is to strengthen the RSE community in Hamburg and beyond, foster exchange across institutions, and showcase successful examples of research software in science.
The programme will feature two keynote speakers offering complementary perspectives on the evolving role of research software:
Bernadette Fritzsch, Deputy Head of Division Computing at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research, will provide insights into the growing importance of research software and discuss the different levels at which Research Software Engineering is now being addressed – from research institutions and infrastructure initiatives to national and international strategies.
Timm Lehmberg, Research Data Management and Digitalisation Officer at the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg, will reflect on two decades of research data standards and infrastructures and explore how emerging technologies such as Large Language Models, agentic workflows, GraphRAG, and AI-supported software development are shaping research and DevOps practices.
The programme includes inspiring keynote talks, a poster session with lightning talks, and interactive barcamp sessions where participants can propose and discuss topics of their choice. The event will also provide ample opportunities for networking and collaboration.
A special focus of the event is to highlight research software and the people behind it. Contributions from all disciplines are therefore highly encouraged.
The poster session is an opportunity for researchers and Research Software Engineers to showcase their work, receive feedback from peers, and connect with the community.
Previously presented posters are welcome and do not need to be redesigned for the event.
Abstracts can be submitted until 20 June 2026 (23:59).
Participants can enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, and water throughout the day, as well as lunch from an on-site food truck included with registration.
Participation is free of charge, but registration is required.
Registration deadline: 21 June 2026, 23:59
